What is Port?
The physical port refers to a hardware slot in the computer components that is used for the physical connection. Data can be sent to any connected machine through such ports and its operation can be controlled. A virtual port is a logical port that is routed on the network and on the internet or through software when using a computer. The port used in the internet means the term we describe as virtual port. Numbers are assigned to address this abstract Cisco Pods port. Some servers use fixed port numbers, while others serve from different port addresses. Ports up to 1024 are private ports, and port numbers above 1024 are available for public use. Examples of these ports are telnet-23, http-80, ftp-21.
IP and Port Relations
IP addresses are given to the computers by the server programs for communication and data exchange in the network environment. Port numbers are used for the server program to be used on the computer accessed by using these addresses. Therefore, when you want to connect to a server program on the network, the port number is added next to the IP number to be connected.
In order to see which port of any IP address on our computer connects to the command prompt (Start – Run – cmd), “netstat -an yazıl command is typed and connections are observed.
